Tailgating on football Saturdays, gourmet meals in the residence
hall dining commons, all night study sessions, picking a major…college
life. Are you ready? Don’t sweat it: you’ve got what it takes.
And we’ve got the notes on how to pay for your education here.
Paying for School
There’s
just no way around it: college
is expensive. Even if your parents have been saving
money since the moment you were born, there’s a good chance
your family still doesn’t have a lot of extra cash just lying
around, waiting to be spent on school. In fact, almost no
one goes to college these days without some sort of assistance,
whether it’s in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, or
a combination of the three. Here are the hard facts:
- College costs have gone up five times
faster than family income has since 1981.
- For the 1999-2000 school year, the average
cost for tuition and room and board at a public university is $8,086.
The average private university is running $21,339.
Now the good news.
There are a lot of ways to get help in financing your education.
The trick is to be aggressive. You have to go out and look for
the money: it’s not going to come looking for you.
